Hey everyone. It's your favorite missionary named Elder Goss from
San Diego. Because you probably don't know any other Elder Goss from San
Diego. So now I get to be everyone's favorite. Yippee.
Man,
this week we did a lot of service. We did some park service with other
volunteers from many churches, we helped at the food bank, we served
some members, and more. It's really great because, just like Christ, we
don't just teach. We serve. And we aren't trying to force anyone into
our beliefs, or get anything from it, and it really shows others that
we're not just trying to get their membership, but we care about them.
Also,
our car needed to go to the shop this week, so we took it to the
mechanics, and a day later they said they can't do it, so yesterday
morning we took it to the OTHER mechanics, and now we've gone 2 days
(and counting) without a car. We are doing our best to get around, but
there's only so much other Missionaries and members can do for you in
your busy schedule. But we're working it out.
Oh,
and last Friday, our zone did a youth-missionary activity, and it was
so neat! There were a lot of youth and so (with propper promision), I
took 3 young men (two of which are in the Spanish branch), and we went
street contacting. It was the funnest (or most fun, for all you grammar
peoples) tracting I've ever done. I mean, yeah, I did the majority of
the work, but these kids were fun, and were willing to take part, and
they had a quiet enthusiasm that many Elders lack. And we placed a Book
of Mormon while we were at it. It was a blast.
As
a missionary, you quickly learn this truth: when you are happy, life is
a blast, whether or not your day went well. And when you're a slob,
gloomy and depressed, life sucks hard, even if you had a great day. And I
know that what I learn here (especially how to be happy) will be beyond
valuable after my mission. And I encourage you all to find that happy
mindset. And if you are doing what you need to be doing, the rewards
will sneak into your lives. You'll see it. Sometimes that happy mindset
is hard to get. But you go for it! Attack it! If you find yourself
thinking negatively, force yourself to fight those thoughts. Happiness
is not cheap. You have to get ugly with yourself sometimes. But IT IS
WORTH IT. Happiness is ALWAYS worth it.
See you all soon!
