Elder Goss---W:69 Happy New Year (Dec 29, 2020)

This week has actually been pretty good: we postponed Miguel's baptism for this Saturday, which I thought was a good move considering there's a bit more we can still teach him. I've taken a new initiative to study Spanish a bit more, so that's great.

And I almost have to go, but I wanted to mention something about New Years. Everyone is aware that there is no better time to evaluate your life and yourself, isolate factors that you wish you could improve, and then set goals and make plans to become and live better. This is awesome, as it helps us fulfill our ultimate purpose in life: progression.

But as great as it is, we all know that keeping our yearly goals often goes awry for whatever reason. And usually in the first 3 months or so. And it has been my experience that it isn't the actual goal that really matters. Paying off your home is great, and beating your own racing time is rewarding and fulfilling. But I think that the biggest benefit isn't the actual accomplishment; it's the fact that you've accomplished a goal. Clearly put, what your goals are matters far less than if you actually get it done. I, Elder Goss, have a thousand goals I could make. What really matters is if I actually get them done. Otherwise they're just fantasies.

And there are several factors that dictate whether you actually follow-though. It could be the actual parameters of the goal (too easy, too hard or unrealistic); it could be your self-discipline, and your will to make things happen; etc. etc. But if you plan to set goals for 2021, realize that as long as the goal changes you for the better, your highest priority should be to fulfill what you promised yourself to do. That honesty to yourself. That's the greatest blessing from resolutions.

I love you all! Enjoy the end of 2020!! Finish this crazy year with good memories.

Sister Goss---W71: CHRISTMAS galore (Dec 28, 2020)

Week 71. That is absolutely crazy my friends. When was the last time I talked about what week I was on? 21? Hahaha... ;)

BUT OH MY GOODNESS MERRY CHRISTMAS!! How was your Christmas weekend everyone?? I hope it was wonderful and you felt the love of your Savior, family, and friends!! My Christmas was FANTASTIC. Yes, that deserves all caps. :)) It was so so so good! This whole week has been so good! On Tuesday we went to our mission President's house with the other missionaries in the Murrieta and Temecula zones and had a Christmas "party" you could say. It was the best ever!!! When we walked in, they had us go to the back room. They had crammed a bunch of chairs in one room and I noticed the lights were turned down a little. I sat down and before I knew it, they turned on their big-screen TV and started The Trial of Porter Rockwell, a movie they are extras in! :O I was so excited I could've jumped up and screamed. I love debate, church history, and movie nights with friends, so having all three of those as a combo on the mission?? Priceless. ;)) We also sang carols together, had musical numbers (ukulele skills come in handy...), white elephant gifts, Christmas stories, and food. Let me repeat: it was the best ever! I love the Watsons so much!!

Lindsey, who was just baptized, told our trio about a service opportunity wrapping presents in the mall to raise money for the homeless shelter. We went the day before Christmas Eve and had so much fun we went again the next day! ;) The Temecula Promenade Mall was hoppin' and we got to have some really cool conversations with people as we wrapped their gifts for them. We also did a lot of caroling service this week in both zones; Christmas just isn't the same without some caroling. :)

We spent Christmas Eve with our Bishop, his wife, their daughter, and the zone leaders. It was very sweet and super fun! We shared some traditions we do and I presented the symbolism behind the little things of Christmas (red and green colors, evergreen trees, candy canes, etc.). Christmas day we opened presents, played ultimate frisbee and Spontuneous with Temecula, played reverse charades and football with Murrieta, and went caroling again that night. And the day after Christmas was just as amazing! But totally unexpected. ;) Sister Hicken got a call that morning that one of her friends from Riverside was getting baptized that afternoon, so we drove to Riverside with permission from President! We went to the baptism, ASL class in-person, Ono's Hawaiin BBQ, and met some of my bestest missionary friends. <3<3<3 Huge miracle, amiright??

Lastly, we met with two new amazing friends this week! Both are from missionaries who are originally from here but currently serving somewhere else. :) The first is Brianna and the second is *drumroll please* Mary!! ;) For those of you who don't know, I don't get called "Mary" here on my mission, but rather "Sister Goss." So to hear my name used so much after 16 months of not hearing it is pretty wacky... Haha! Both of them are awesome and so so willing to learn more and progress. I'm really, really excited to get to know them better! I am loving the people here! :) <3

Well in a *long* nutshell, that has been my incredible week! I'm super excited for 2021; it holds so much I don't even know about haha! ;) As we say goodbye to 2020, don't forget the lessons we've learned or the experience we've gained. These are treasured times. I love you all so much; hope you had a Merry Christmas and enjoy the last couple days of 2020! Finish strong!!

Elder Goss---W:68 Merry Christmas everyone! (Dec 22, 2020)

Christmas is so close! Wow. I hope you all are able to appreciate what we have, despite disappointments that will undoubtedly befall us this year.

Well, Miguel (our investigator) passed his baptismal interview. We're so pumped! He is scheduled for baptism on the 26th. That's so exciting. He's also learning a lot of English.

We started teaching English to a new gentleman, Efraín. He's super animated and always happy, and it's fun to teach him. We'll see if he wants to take the missionary lessons as well here soon. First, we want a good relationship.

I was in a Zone Conference the other day, and President Gimenez said something that got me thinking. I don't know the actual quote, but it detailed how we aren't perfect but still try, etc. However, I saw it a little differently this time. Some of us DO get overly concerned that less-than-perfect performance is failed performance. However, there are OTHERS who aren't concerned about being perfect. In fact, sometimes they slip too far the other way. They aren't concerned about good performance at all. They are too casual with the purpose of life. They don't stress about even trying to improve.

In essence, some of us are concerned with perfection. Some of us are casual with progression. Which are you?

We need to switch the two. We should be casual about perfection. We shouldn't be too stressed if we still get angry or sad. If we mess up. But we SHOULD be concerned about progression. We should make our progression the highest priority in our lives. That's why we're here. To become like Jesus Christ. To learn how to live celestial lives. To be the best we can be NOW, so we CAN be perfect later.

I love you all! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Be awesome.

Sister Goss---W70: Lindsey's baptism!!! (Dec 21, 2020)

 MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!!!

Well for the second year in a row, on the SAME DAY, it's been a white Christmas for me! :D Lindsey was baptized on Saturday!! WOOHOO!! She was so cute and so excited! We had very limited numbers, but she invited her mother and step-father and I felt the Spirit very strongly. :) I was able to play the piano (who knew that would be so useful!) and give the Restoration presentation while she changed back into her normal clothes. (For context to those who aren't as familiar with how we baptize, we baptize by immersion the way Jesus Christ was. We wear white and someone holding the priesthood authority immerses us in the water. Here's a video that shows what that looks like! :) https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/video/teachings/2011-10-024-the-baptism-of-jesus?lang=eng). Lindsey bore her testimony at the end and even though she is very new in learning about Jesus Christ and His gospel, her remarks showed maturity and understanding of His principles. She was given the gift of the Holy Ghost right afterwards and she is so excited to be a full-fledged member of the church! Let's go Lindsey!!!! <3 <3 <3 By the way, Sister Henriod and her companion found her October 4th. She progressed so fast. :))

It's been a very Christmas-y week in addition to a white one! ;) We had our typical transfer breakfast with our stake president, President Whittier. He and his presidency gave each of us missionaries a beautiful #LighttheWorld stocking and gifts inside, along with Angel Moroni masks with "Murrieta Stake." How nice is that?? I LOVE them! :) We were privileged to drive up to Riverside again to pick up Sister Noall, Sister Seller's new companion (they are our roommates). Guess what!! She's fluent in ASL! *fist bump in the air* yes!!! I'm so excited. We've also gone caroling several times this week and that has been so wonderful. I haven't missed a year caroling since I can remember! It just brings the Spirit so strongly and it was so touching to see tears as people felt that Spirit. That includes people that knew us and people that didn't. ;) Last but not least, we sang in church yesterday haha! It's been a while... But it went great. The Sunday before Christmas is always one of the best. <3 (But really they're all the best. But also especially the one before Christmas).

I'll keep it shorter today and keep it at that! Love you all so very much; have a MERRY MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS on Friday!! You're the best!! I love you and I know that God loves you!!! #LighttheWorld :))

Merry Christmas one more time,

Sister Goss

Sister Goss---W 69: Alone in Jurupa and Dinner w/ Amulek (Dec 14, 2020)

Hey y'all!! It's a SUPER busy day with transfers so I apologize in advance if my thoughts sound scattered. :)

Transfer update: I'm staying here in the YSA ward in Murrieta! So is Sister Henriod! AND we're going to be in a trio! :O Sister Hicken, who's been living with us, is joining our companionship and ward. Hermana Neider is being transferred so we'll have two other sisters move in and we'll be a five-man again! Woowoo! We're still STLs (first STL trio ever) and social media specialists. And Instagram is rolling, rolling!! Go give it a follow @findjesus.inlandempire :)) And tune into our Lives every Sunday at 6:30pm!

We got to do a lot of really fun things this week. :) Last pday we walked around Old Town Temecula as the four-man and it was like Main Street in Warrenton, VA, but a little longer. It was adorable!! The Christmas lights were all up and we did a little Christmas shopping for our families. :) On Tuesday Sister Henriod had an appointment for visa stuff in Jurupa and as she went inside, the officer told me I had to wait outside. So I went outside and stood there awkwardly on the street thinking "now what." I figured it would be safer to wait in our car so I did, not having a SIM card and not knowing how long her thing would last for. Haha I've never been that alone on my mission! I thought, "pretty sure when the handbook asks us to stay within sight and sound of your companion, they don't mean sit in the car by yourself with your companion in another building." Haha... I don't know how I did that all the time before my mission. I know y'all are laughing at how silly it is, but when you've been by someone's side for 15 months it's super weird to be completely alone!! ;) Don't worry; we didn't die. We also had a pizza party at one of the service locations we go to (Western Eagle) and walked around Bainbridge Circle, a street in Murrieta that's decked out with Christmas lights! It was SO FUN! Ah I love Christmastime. And both the missionaries in the Murrieta and Temecula zone are so awesome. :)

This weekend was also AMAZING. Elder Kevin Miskin of the Quorum of the 70 had a Zoom meeting with our mission Saturday morning and it was the best devotional I've had in a long time. :)) I felt the Spirit so strongly and was so impressed by his message!! The main principle I learned, along with his CRAZY mission stories, was that we are all children of God working to learn more of Him and become more like Him. It doesn't matter who you are in the church, or out of the church - we are all learning. No one is "better" than anyone else and God loves us all just as equally. :) Isn't that amazing? For me it takes off so much pressure and really helps to feel love towards others.

Lindsey is learning super super fast and loving every second of it! She's thrilled to tell others she's being baptized on Saturday, December 19th and loves coming to church, reading the Book of Mormon, and having lessons with us. She is inspirational to say in the least. <3 :)) Joseph also came to church!! That's a big deal, and we are so so so happy!! He loved it too. :) He was smiling a lot and was happy we could introduce him to the elders. He asked about another guy in the ward who we invited to his lesson too. I've just met the coolest people out here; it's awesome!!

Lastly, remember how I said Amulek lives above us? Well, we heart-attacked their door for #LighttheWorld and they invited us over for dinner yesterday! We ended up staying longer than we intended as we made crazy connections, saw some behind-the-scenes of the Book of Mormon videos, listened to his stories (like performing a Korean rap and winning the foreigner's singing contest ON HIS MISSION), talked about acting and some of the resources he can give me after my mission (WHAT), etc. OH MY GOSH they are amazing!!!! Their names are Charley and Cynthia Boon and their home stake is the stake my brother is actually serving in right now!! Like I said, so many crazy connections! Seriously the entire time our four-man was just blown away as we talked with them. They. are. so. cool. :) I want to be best friends with them.

Okay that's a long enough email (so sorry haha!), but I hope you have a wonderful week! I love you all so much; Merry Christmas! Keep smiling and going strong. Make the end of 2020 great. :))

Elder Goss---W 66: Drum roll please (Dec 8, 2020)

This week was pretty mundane in quarantine, but we get released tomorrow. So with luck, we will be able to have in-person lessons soon. Also, today was transfer day, and aside from Elder Sorensen leaving sometime this week, the entire district remains unchanged. Which is great; they're all great. Elder Hubbard is now the District Leader. Man, what can I say? All my comp's are District Leaders. Literally the past 4. I'm just too good. If you are my comp, then poof! Abra Cadabra. It's actually nice. I get to do Exchanges and everything.

But something exciting that DID happen, and hold on to your hats, is that Miguel (our investigator) now has a baptism date!!! LET'S GO!!! ¡Vámonos! ¡Andale! The 26th of December, day after Christmas. He's super great. And one of the few people who truly understands how important faith and action is. It's so great.

I am super excited for Christmas. I hope you all are too. It is a great time to do some life-evaluation. I love you all! Take care.

Elder Goss

Sister Goss---W68: MLC + The Christ Child = good week (Dec 7, 2020)

It's been a GOOD week. :D

It's been a really, really, really good week! You just can't beat Christmastime!! :) On Tuesday we had MLC in Riverside, where Sister Henriod and I won the cleanest car award!! Woowoo! It's actually quite a funny story so ask me about it sometime. ;) We hiked Mt Rubidoux afterwards for our Instagram photos! (FOLLOW US!! We just set up our first posts last night!! @findjesus.inlandempire) :D We only got a couple strange looks as we walked up in our dresses in the middle of the day... ;) Haha! I love Mt Rubidoux!

In almost every single visit with members this week we watched The Christ Child video (you can find it on LighttheWorld.org). I probably watched it 8-10 times this week. :) And cried almost every time. It's such a touching portrayal of the nativity and gives you a lot of new insight. And it's so peaceful. 10/10 would recommend! Seriously, go watch it!! #LighttheWorld

Our friends are making big, amazing, wonderful, exciting, hopeful steps!! :D We had a lesson with Lindsey on Wednesday and she wants to be baptized by someone holding the priesthood power of God (as we've been directed to do by Him), so she's going to be baptized December 19th!! WOOHOO!!! YAY! I'm so happy for her! She's really excited and so are we!! We also started teaching Kiersten, someone with no religious background. Her boyfriend is a member of the church so we've been meeting with the both of them. We watched the Christmas devotional yesterday (churchofjesuschrist.org) with them and they loved it. :) Lastly, we're teaching Joseph who converted to the Jewish belief when he was a young teenager! That's been a super cool conversation! He showed us his religious book, which I thought was really cool. When we showed him the Book of Mormon and read the Title Page together, his eyes were glued to the book and he was literally speechless for several seconds. This is a portion of the Title page:

"Which is to show unto the remnant of the house of Israel what great things the Lord hath done for their fathers; and that they may know the covenants of the Lord, that they are not cast off forever—And also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations—And now, if there are faults they are the mistakes of men; wherefore, condemn not the things of God, that ye may be found spotless at the judgment-seat of Christ."

How cool is that?? :) We are so blessed. I am so blessed to see so many lives changing and that additional light and happiness come into the lives of these friends. Christmastime works miracles because it's all about Christ! That's why we're here! Go keep #LighttheWorld -ing and have a wonderful, merry, happy week! Love you all lots!!

Sister Goss---W 67: Thanksgiving dice (Nov 30, 2020)

*Imagine me saying this while doing a little happy dance*

Happy holiday season everybooodyyy!!

It's the best time of the year!!! :D With Thanksgiving this past week and heading into Christmastime, I'm thriving and enjoying life! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, even with certain COVID restrictions. :)

Thursday morning our zone (Murrieta) met with the Temecula zone and played a Turkey Bowl!! We split our zones into two teams and played four games and guess who won each time. ;)) Let's go Murrieta!! Woowoo!!! It was a beautiful morning and a great start to a wonderful day! :) We, the ZLs, and the sisters we live with ate Thanksgiving dinner with the Reddish's in our ward. It. Was. So. Much. FUN!!! Sister Reddish is a fantastic cook and made everything from scratch; the stuffing, cranberry sauce, rolls, pie crust, jello, etc. It was muy delicious. :) We played a dice game together afterwards and I remembered how much I love games! We only had time to play two rounds, but boy I had fun. If anyone needs a buddy to have a game night with, let me know and I'll be there! ;) This Thanksgiving was so wonderful and I feel overwhelmingly grateful for Jesus Christ and everything else God's given me. <3 :)

Our teaching pool is AMAZING right now! We have been so blessed to meet so many people who are interested in learning, including our friends Joseph, Justin, Lindsey, Adrian, Marina, Sarah, Ashley, Mikey, and Diandra! :O Is that not so incredible or what?? They are all so awesome! Ask me about any one of them. :) I can't wait to keep meeting with them!

We took our car to the shop to get fixed from that accident we had the first pday of this transfer, so we were on bike for a day. We had a service scheduled with the sisters we live with and biked there together. It was a 10 minute bike ride and we kept taking right turn after right turn after right turn... By the time we got there we realized Google maps had taken us in one big loop and we could SEE our apartment complex 100 feet away from the service location. Hahaha... Thank you, Google maps. ;) Silly silly!

Lastly, WHO'S EXCITED FOR #LighttheWorld???? WOOHOO!!!! If you can't tell, I'm pumped!! :D :D #LighttheWorld is the initiative the church has for Christmastime with millions of people around the world doing acts of service each day. We focus on the Light of Christ and sharing that with others as we think of Him this Christmas season. In our apartment, we've already bought a 6.5 ft tree, decorated it, hung up other decorations, and we listen to Christmas music 24/7. At least I do. ;) And occasionally I wear my Santa hat just for fun. Haha! But you can join the Christmas spirit through #LighttheWorld! Look at the resources available to you at ComeUntoChrist.org where you can see the calendar, watch The Christ Child short film, and feel inspired with Christ's light. It is the best time of the year for a very good reason, and it's even more fun if you go all in! Go check it out!!

Love you all so so so much and MERRY CHRISTMAS! Have a wonderful week and #LighttheWorld with all your heart! :)) <3

Elder Goss---W:64 Thanksgiving Today! (Nov 26, 2020)

This week, Mission President Gimenez decided to change our P-day to Thursday for Thanksgiving. So here we are!

Actually, it wasn't much of a traditional Thanksgiving, mostly because we got quarantined! Some Elders in the district got positive testing for Corona, and Elder Hubbard, Sorensen, and myself weren't feeling too great either, especially myself. Yay! Fun times. We plan to get tested tomorrow.

Thanksgiving is a great day of the year. I enjoy it because even though there's a big emphasis on glutting ourselves, it's still a worldwide celebration of the virtue gratitude. Not many holidays can claim that same status. And yet despite this, I think that in reality, the world in general is very bad at being grateful. All people seem to care about are talking about the thousands of problems our world faces, and whose to blame. That doesn't seem very grateful. And as I was thinking about it, and why don't we hear of any truly grateful people anymore, I realized that the most grateful people are the ones who don't demand a lot from the world. They are happy living in peace and quiet. They know what really truly matters, and they know there's no need to be hostile with politics or religion or science or philosophy or you name it. Now I'm not saying they don't have an opinion; they just value simple virtues over political correctness.

Today, I want to encourage all of you to take a break from everyone's opinions; let's take some time, instead of watching YouTube or the news, and do something a little more simple and in tune with a grateful lifestyle. If you want to  be grateful, just ask yourself, "how would a grateful person live?" And chances are, you'll find your answer.

Thanks! I love you all!

Sister Goss---W66: Grateful for #21, campfires, and Lindsey (Nov 23, 2020)

 Hola hola!

Boy oh boy how fun this week has been!! We are officially released from isolation in our apartment! YAY!!! :) Here's a run down of my week:

First off, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for all the birthday wishes on Tuesday!! Y'all are the nicest and I felt so loved and remembered. It was honestly such an amazing day, even though we were quarantined in our apartment. :)) We listened to a lot of music, had studies, took pictures, ate traditional family birthday meals, etc. But the notes and the wishes I got definitely made it the best! Love you all SO much! <3 #21

On Thursday we got to go to institute after several weeks of being unable to attend! Because we can't meet inside our church buildings, we met in a church pavilion outside at night around a campfire and I was pretty much on cloud nine. Could it get any better than the smell and sound of the crackling wood, a hot chocolate in my hand, finally around friends again, and feeling the Spirit as we talk about the Book of Mormon? It's a toughie to beat, that's for sure. ;)

Our friend Lindsey came to institute and she loved it! Lindsey is someone we're teaching from Lake Elsinore and she is so amazing!! The principles of the gospel made so much sense to her and she loved the other members of the ward. I can't wait to get to know her better and keep teaching her; so far she absolutely loves the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith's story, and the concept of spiritual renewal and healing. Woohoo!!! It's true; those things are true and really did happen!! :))

Lastly the prophet spoke to all of us this week! On Friday he gave a short, sweet, and simple message to find a fast-acting, long-lasting remedy for so many problems we see in the world. If you haven't seen it yet, go watch it on ChurchofJesusChrist.org. It is so very inspiring and everyone we've shown it to - those who are members of the church and those who are not - love it! I'll give you a sneak peak: he talks about GRATITUDE. Especially with Thanksgiving this week, I am so grateful for the thousands of blessings God's given me. And I am seeing even from the past two days how healing gratitude can be; I feel happier, lighter, and more joyful by just counting my blessings instead of recounting my problems. Gratitude has power!

Speaking of which, I am grateful for each and every one of you and the impact you've had on my life! Thank you for being who you are and lighting the world up with your personality. Keep giving thanks, because God is good and He's always here to give you more. :) Have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving and week! Love you!!! #givethanks

Elder Goss---W:63 Next week is Thanksgiving! (Nov 16, 2020)

This week California got purple-ized again for Covid, as I'm sure a lot of places have. For me, it isn't a big deal. At this point, I've decided it doesn't matter how long we're quarantined; I will learn to live with what I got. I hope we all find this endurance.

We had some good lessons with Miguel, who is learning English, as well as the Gospel. We've had some other lessons too, but they've all been awkward for one reason or another; sometimes our investigators can't hear us through zoom, or their environment keeps distracting them, or whatnot. Additionally, a lot of people keep canceling the Bible Study stuff. But, once again, I really don't care.

Well, in preparation for Thanksgiving, I'd like to invite you all to do something special for me. In my various districts as a missionary, I've had a lot of District Councils. And there is one lesson that when given the opportunity to share I've always loved it. Today, we're going to do it together: Okay, the first step is optional: gather a group of friends together or your family. This might be awkward unless it is for a planned activity, like Mutual or FHE. Or you can just do it by yourself.

Next, grab a pen and paper (pencil is less profesional but whatever. ;) Pick someone. Someone you love, or someone you wish you had a better relationship with. Someone who is important in your life. As Missionaries, we all do our companions. If you want to select additional subjects, that is totally fine! Spend some time to write 3 meaningful virtues and characteristics that you admire about your friend. Make them meaningful, not cliche or superficial. I've organized a tier list of different types of compliments. You might want to take a gander at it before you write your 3 traits. (see below)

And once you've made your list, read it to them, or give it to them. It can be awkward, but it really means the world to them.

This is the season to be grateful. Sometimes that can be hard. But there is a real and tangible joy that comes from recognizing how others are a blessing to you, and then cheering someone else, especially in the form of adoration. Sometimes, I've had really hard companions to love. And I have always found true compliments and virtues that I love if I give it thought.

List:

Lvl. 0: flattery or fake. This type of compliment gets 0 points. People can see through an untrue compliment really easy, and it might hurt or offend them. And flattery (praise to gain favor in someone) is deceitful and harmful.

Lvl. 1: vague or uncreative. "You're really nice!" or, "he's a great guy." etc. etc. These have little or no meaning.

Lvl: 2: possessions. "Your shirt looks great!" "You have a sweet soccer ball." etc. etc. These denote that perhaps you have good taste, but little more than that.

Lvl. 3: skills or achievements. "You are super good at basketball!" "Man, I admire your cooking. It tastes super good." "Your acting is phenomenal."

Lvl 4: virtues and characteristics. "You are so loving." "You're so courageous."  "You are hard working." These compliments are fire. They reflect an admiration of their soul, and express that not only are they good, but they are a good person. This means a lot to them!

And finally, Lvl. 5: value and importance. Combined with lvl. 4, these are earth-shaking compliments. You tell the person (specifically) what they mean to you. Why you want to be like them. "I am so grateful for your love, even when I treat you like trash, you still love me." "Your faith in me has gotten me through a really rough time." You describe why they have benefited your life. This is the highest form of compliment.

I love you all! I wish I had time to describe how grateful I am for all of you. Take care!

Sister Goss---W65: INSTAGRAM!!! and isolation... (Nov 16, 2020)

Hello from my isolated apartment! Yes, this week I learned that PTSD is real. This week we were put back into temporary isolation because a sister in our apartment has a bad cough and, until we get her COVID test results back, we're inside. Not going to lie it was hard getting that news on Tuesday. BUT - this week has still been amazing and I am doing good! You could say I'm a "pro-isolated-missionary" so we've still gotten some things done. ;) Haha #blessingsindisguise. There are 5 MAJOR differences from this isolation verses the last quarantine: 1) this is temporary, not an indefinite amount of time (aka months), 2) we are in a 5-man, not a 2-man, 3) we have friends to teach, 4) we have connection and can actually use video call, 5) we have music we can listen to besides what's on the church website. Believe me THOSE ARE GAME CHANGERS. And yes that deserves all caps haha! ;) Hopefully we get negative results back today and we're good to go back outside next week! :)

Part of what made this week great, despite isolation, was our mission tour with Scott D. Whiting, one of the church leaders! He gave a talk in general conference in October (you can see it at ChurchofJesusChrist.org). He invited us to write a one-page essay of how the Book of Mormon has changed our life, and then invited us a few days later to rewrite it again and share a very specific example of how it's blessed our life. His insights were amazing and although he wasn't afraid to call us out, it helped us rethink the way we bear testimony and how we can make it much more relatable to the people we're teaching. :) Good stuff!!

BIG NEWS!! Our mission has gotten permission to start using Instagram for missionary purposes and President asked if our apartment would be willing to pilot it! :O WOOHOO!!! So Sister Henriod and I have Instagram on our phones now and we are creating the account the mission will use in the future. The other sisters we live with will get access to it soon and we'll be posting super frequently. Stay tuned for when the account goes live! I love being a pioneer!!! :)) SO exciting!!!

Last but not least, we had a home visit over video call with a member this week and she is hard of hearing, so she used sign language as she talked. I used sign language when I talked too and it was so much fun! :) Sign language has become such a joy and I love being able to know another language well enough to have a solid conversation haha! I can say prayers, read scriptures, and teach the first three lessons in ASL. Lets goooo!! ;)

Miss you all lots and lots! Have an amazing day and enjoy it!! I'll enjoy my last day of being 20... ;) *big yikes*

Love you all!

Elder Goss--W 62: Online Work (Nov 10, 2020)

This week, we've been working pretty hard. At first, we were just snooping around, looking for random individuals who might look interested in a message. It goes by pretty slow. However, another Elder had the idea to ask different Groups if anyone wanted to have Bible Studies with him. And afterwards, if they enjoy the Bible study, invite them to take the missionary lessons. I thought hm, maybe I'll try that. So I joined several Christian groups, and asked if anyone wanted to study the Bible? And OH MY MACARONI NOODLES. SO many people. I was completely overwhelmed and just slightly stressed. But we've been working one by one, and man, I've never worked with so many people from the Philippines.

Anyhow. Again, I've kept studying about trials, and this time, I'm going to focus on the temptations of the Natural Man.

We all have appetites. We all experience impulses and desires. We all want to eat. We all want to be popular. We all want to love and be loved. And none of these appetites are bad. But if you look closely, you'll find that Sin is just a lack of understanding, control, or disregard over these (Natural) tendencies. Pride? A desire to be great, taken to extreme measures. Laziness? A desire to enjoy the simple things of life. Etc.

The struggle comes, and our purpose in life, is to learn to become masters over these appetites. Bridle our passions. Sin comes from the indulgence of our Natural Man tendencies. Gluttony? The appreciation of good food. Not a bad trait. But once we surrender and indulge, it becomes a vice and sin. The solution? Learn to control your hunger. Don't go and eat every little time you feel tempted to. Don't make food your top priority.

How intriguing! The world wants to indulge the Natural man. Do you? We live in a world full of ease, convenience, and immediate gratification. Becoming a master of ourselves can be hard when everything is so accessible. But part of a divine and celestial life means complete acceptance of personal responsibility and accountability. To "put off the Natural man."

Thanks! I love you all!

Sister Goss---W64: Airport Time (Nov 9, 2020)

Hey hey hey!! :)) WOW what an AMAZING week!! Literally I had so many prayers answered, so many experiences to never forget, and so many awesome meetings! WOOHOO!!! Let me tell you about it! ;)

Okay I'm seriously so excited to tell you about what happened this week haha! Tuesday started off with the bestest thing ever: Sister Henriod and I got to go back to the airport (which I haven't been to since last September!)!! :O Woah!!! It was so wild. We went to the airport to welcome the incoming 34 missionaries with President Watson and the APs! :) It was way awesome to watch them come down the escalator and join God's army. Took me back to when I was there for the first time! :O Right before all the missionaries got there, President said he had some news for us. (Sister Henriod hasn't been through the temple yet). He said "I just got some news last night that we finally have permission to take our missionaries who haven't been to the temple to the Newport Beach temple in December! They can choose to take their mom, dad, and current companion." I seriously started crying. I was soooooo shocked!!!!! I haven't been to the temple since Utah because of COVID and timing. I have seriously been praying for months to be able to go, even to the point of asking to go at least before I come home. And it's going to happen!!! FINALLY!! <3 Ahhh it might as well be Christmas because I could not have received better news!!! It is not a coincidence I'm with Sister Henriod - if not just for my prayers to be answered after 10 months. :)) YAAAAY!!!

We also had MLC this week! :D My favorite meeting ever!! I now have 5 companions there at MLC: Sister Gugelman, Sister Clyde, Sister Copling, Sister Weston, and now Sister Henriod haha! It's such a party - all my friends from past zones are there too. The trainings were phenomenal and I felt the Spirit so strongly! I can't wait for the month of November and all the miracles that will come. MLC gets me PUMPED. <3 :)

Sister Henriod and I made a quality post that involves a lot of awkward/fun contacting in drive-thrus!! Go check it out on the Disciples of Jesus Christ in Murrieta page!! ;) Woowoo! Also our pages are doing so well and I couldn't be more thankful and proud. California Riverside Mission's FB work is #19 of all the missions in the world. <3 God is so good. Want to hear another miracle? Remember Samuel from Africa I started teaching back in July? He messages me all the time and I'll attach screenshots of what he says. He is such an incredible Spirit and I can't wait to meet him one day!! His messages make my heart so happy! :)

The rest of this week was busy, busy, busy as always! On Sunday, we had three back-to-back meetings from 3pm-7pm with different stakes on social media. One we presented to the Ontario stake leadership, one to the Jurupa stake MCM, and one to all the Lake Elsinore stake youth. It is such a privilege to help so many people and contact hundreds of both members and non-members everyday! I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY!!! Love you all so much; have a super-duper week!

Love, Sister Goss

Elder Goss---W:61 Trick or ... nah, it is definitely a trick. (Nov 3, 2020)

Well this past week was pretty great! Halloween was a bit underwhelming, but I am definitely not complaining. In fact, the day of Halloween, the three of us decided to buy some pumpkins to make some Jack O'lanterns during the evening. However, every store we stopped by not only had super long lines, but also had no pumpkins! We even called pumpkin patches. Nope. All out. But!! Was that going to stop us? No! This setback wasn't going to vanquish our vision!!! So, we adapted to our circumstances, and instead we bought watermelons! Yes, you heard me. Watermelons. And we gutted said watermelons (so much pulp/flesh/whatever you call the red part), and we carved said watermelons (it was actually super easy), but THEN, we encountered a new adversary: we had no light! So, we all prayed and asked God, and he showed his finger and touched several stones... just kidding. At this time, we couldn't leave the apartment to get candles or matches or anything (we had to remain inside after 6). But we did not let our conditions determine our success! We had originally cut the bottom of the watermelons flat, so they would stand up, and there was just a bit of pink showing. So, we turned on the flashlight to our phones, placed the phones into two recently-bought plastic sandwich bags, and set the Jack O'lanterns on top, so the flashlight penetrated the transparent red flesh, and lo and behold our melons were illuminated! It was fun.

I said last week that I'd discuss a bit about trials/temptations, and this story perfectly illustrates ONE example of how trials and temptations, even when not fun, are healthy.

I was not always someone who was good at adapting. In fact, outside of practical challenges, I still have a difficult time having control over my mind, heart, emotions, desires, etc etc. Just like everyone, sometimes my Natural Man gets the best of me, and when I make plans that become unobtainable, I get ticked off, frustrated, disappointed, and underwhelmed. I'm sure as a kid, if I realized that pumpkins were not an option, I would have lost it. The disappointment would have led to tears. But last Halloween, I didn't even think twice about it. I was confronted, and without groaning or moaning, my brain just figured a way to adapt. All my previous practical trials have led to a type of growth I call "instinctive adaptation."

But this principle is not exclusive to practical applications. Guess what? If you train yourself, you can learn to be "instinctively happy" in the face of emotional temptation. You might say it is the "little things" that determine our success. The more trials we experience, the more we are forced to adapt. We adapt to survive, and survive to flourish.

Let me know what you learned! I love you all.

 Elder Goss

Sister Gos---W63: Happy Halloween!!! (Nov 2, 2020)

Happy (late) Halloween everyone!!!! Hope you all had a wonderful time and stayed safe! :)

Boy do I have some things to tell y'all! Sister Weston's birthday was Wednesday and it was a blast! We ate poke where I had octopus for the first time (it was actually super good haha!! Once I could tell my mind to calm down and just eat it like a normal human being...), we had a ping-pong tournament at bishop's storehouse (guess who won yep you got it it was me), and met her sister from the Mission Viejo area! :) Such a fun time!! We also celebrated Halloween as a zone on Saturday night where we had a murder mystery dinner and it was a BLAST. The zone leaders put it together and my character was a lawyer named Veronica. It involved trials and such and I was either the prosecutor or defense attorney everytime haha! It took me back to highschool where I took debate and had to participate in several graded trials/debates... Yikes. Good times. :) It was SO FUN and don't worry - we found out who did it. 10/10 zone halloween activity!! :D

Yes, transfers have come again and I am staying here in Murrieta for my third transfer! Sweet Sister Weston is moving up to Riverside (<3), so my new companion is Sister Henriod. She is brand new out of training and was called to be my STL companion. She's awesome and is going to do so well! :) The other companionship I live with became a trio, so our apartment has become a  5-man!! Woohoo! None of them have been out longer than 3 transfers, so it'll be really weird to be "so old" compared to all of them. Luckily I can still relate with the other members of my zone and find some connection with them haha! ;)

Last but not least, our shopping trip today was quite the adventure! We as a 5-man decided to buy basically everything together and it was such a big order, the machines kept breaking haha.... whooooops... Also fun fact you can't split a Walmart order between more than 4 cards! Just fyi. ;) We only had to scan everything we bought three times on three different registers. ;) AND coming home, on the ramp to the freeway, the cars in front of me (I was the driver) slammed on the breaks. I slammed on the breaks in time to not hit the car in front of me, but the car behind us did not. So we pulled over as well as we could on the on-ramp and called our mission vehicle coordinator, filled out the accident report, etc. Don't worry! Nothing major happened, surprisingly! It felt like a big hit but only our bumper is scraped! Yay! :) The poor guy that hit us was so sad; he already had a ton of stuff on his plate and he's in our prayers. Because the damage was so minor, I'm sure it won't impact him insurance-wise. His car was fine. And all 6 of us were totally safe and healthy. :) So no problemo! Just a crazy day!!

Can't wait for this transfer!! Transfers are always a hard adjustment, but they always turn out to be the best thing ever so I'm pumped. :)) Thanks for everything y'all do!! Have an amazing week! Love you!!!

Elder Goss---W:60 Transfers Again!!! (Oct 27, 2020)

Wow! I was in the Valley for just 2 transfers. That's kinda sad. But now I'm in a Trio in Chula Vista (in the south, but on the coast). My new companions: Sorenson and Hubbard. They're quiet, but great so far.

It was sad so say goodbye to the various friends I made in Calexico. Also, I got to enjoy being with Elder Lopez. But with hope, we'll make friends here too. Sigh.

Well, this week, I did a bunch of studies about trials and temptations. And to begin, I'd start by saying, I have always been taught and known that "trials are good for you," but I don't know if there was ever a trial I enjoyed. Why are painful things good for you? Why are healthy things often the least appetizing? Wait! Oof. I actually have to go. Here, why don't you study these questions this week, and next week I'll write about MY research. A little homework.

Until later!

Love, Elder Goss

Sister Goss---W62: Finding in many ways :) (Oct 26, 2020)

WOW what an incredible week!! I saw so many miracles and had so much fun, you wouldn't believe it! ;)

This week started off with a bang at zone conference on Tuesday! We still can't meet in large groups for meetings, so zone conference was still just two zones: Murrieta and Temecula. However, we had lunch right before with the Hemet and Ramona zones so I got to see a lot of familiar faces. :) I got to meet Sister Malm and Sister Kelly, my granddaughter and great granddaughter in the mission! That was super fun. :) Zone conference was amazing as always; I feel the Spirit so strongly everytime in those meetings. President taught us about how to "answer the question they should've asked," and how to really bring the Spirit into any conversation through testimony. <3

As I'm sure you're experiencing in your various locations, fall is coming on nicely here (as nicely as it can in SoCal) and I have stuck my head out of the car window like a dog more times than I can count now. ;) The weather has been so so so so so nice!! You really can't get much better than a sunny, slightly windy, 75 degree (dry heat haha) kind of a day... Ahhhh... It even rained a little bit during outside church yesterday! Speaking of which, Riverside County has moved back into the purple tier of COVID restrictions, so our church meetings can't be held indoors anymore. I'm grateful we can still meet outside though! Nothing else has changed COVID-wise. We're still allowed to do pretty much everything except go to homes uninvited (knock on doors), meet in large groups, and take our masks off in visits. We are definitely blessed.

Saturday was an especially miracle-filled day. :D Sister Weston and I started off by giving a mission training about social media (we rotate with the social media council every couple weeks) via Zoom, and it was a little awkward. At one point, one elder forgot to mute himself and in the middle of Sister Weston's comments he said "yeah you have to massage the lower back..." We invited everyone to mute their mics and failed at holding back laughter. Whoops... Right after our training we went boothing/tabling for the first time! We went to a park with a few other missionaries and tabled about family history! I haven't park-contacted people since February, so BOY was I rusty. Haha! No one we talked to was interested, so that was a bummer. However, we saw this one man looking over frequently at our table and the elders went to go talk to him. A couple minutes later he was at our table learning more about family history and gaining interest in filling out his chart. The elders swapped numbers with him and you could tell that he, James, was the reason we went there that day. It was definitely a miracle to watch. Right after tabling, we helped a woman move in from Corona! She was being taught by the missionaries there and we were able to unload her two trucks, build a connection, and will continue to teach her the restored gospel. Yay!! We worked hard that night and had lots of online contacts and lessons. Finally the day ended with Sister Watson sharing a miracle from an elder from Lake Elsinore that said he was super inspired by our training. After weeks of no Facebook miracles, he finally started teaching someone who wanted to learn and was super excited to keep working on Facebook. That was a huge miracle for me; even though things go wrong, and it often seems like the little things we do/trainings we give don't matter, they are making a difference. Despite the awkward. ;)

God is good, y'all! Thanks for reading my longer-than-normal email. No hard feelings if you didn't. :) The short and sweet message of it is that missionary work is awesome and there is so much joy to be found in doing the work of the Lord. Make a little time for that this week! Reach out and share your testimony, your service, your witness, your favorite scripture/quote/talk, etc. I, along with ancient and modern prophets, promise you will be happier! Love you all lots; keep on keepin' on!

Love, Sister Goss

Elder Goss---W:59 El Cumpleaños del Mi Compañero! (Oct 20, 2020)

This week was Elder López's Birthday. Woo Hoo! Of course, it was hard to do anything particularly special, but we had a fantastic meal at a member's house. They even had a Birthday cake. It was super nice. And today, we ate burgers with the other Elders, and that was fun.

There was also a fire across our apartment near the train tracks. After we left our apartment to go to visit a member, but before we got back, it was put out, but it made a huge smoke column. It's all all safe. I'm not sure even a building caught fire. Just some extra Railroad ties laying to the side.

Well, for some odd reason, once again all our appointments fell through. Actually, this last Friday, we had Raspados (snowcones) again, and additionally, the Bishop and a few others set up a projector and screen outside and watched the Testaments, in hopes that those that came would be able to visit and watch a movie. It was kinda a test-run for later this month, for a bigger celebration later near to Halloween.

I love you all!

Sister Goss---W61: Amulek literally lives above us (Oct 19, 2020)

This was a BUSY week!!! I had three exchanges and ten meetings, two of which I trained at. This upcoming week will be super busy too. Woohoo! I love missionary life!!

I've been doing a BUNCH of family history work and helping others become involved and learn about their family history, too. In fact, I was working on a random document and found a family that lived in Fauquier county, VA in the 1830s! WOW! (That's my county, for those of you who don't know.) ;) It was literally so awesome. Also my great-great-great-grandfather's photo won photo of the week for a family history group with thousands of followers. Go grandpa John Abraham Kitchen!! Woowoo! :)

GUESS WHAT. For those of you who have seen the Book of Mormon videos, you know the actor who plays Amulek?? Well we ran into him in our apartment complex and he said "sisters!!!!" Turns out he just moved in DIRECTLY UPSTAIRS. So literally the coolest missionary companion in the world lives above us now. :D :D :D #you'renotjealous Extra blessings from above, if you ask me. ;) Literally. <3

We had a lesson with Sarah again! YAY! It's been a little while because she had a major test to take. But it turns out that she's been coming to activities with her fellowship friend Dolores, and said she'd love it if we sent her a scripture everyday. So we're hopeful, even if lessons are becoming scarce. We also had dinner with a family in our ward called the Reddish's and they have a german shorthaired pointer! They let me play with their dog and I've never missed my own german shorthaired pointer so much. ;) It was the best.

I just got off a Zoom meeting with my friend Scott Heine, my acting director for HOPE Christian Fellowship drama camp! He's teaching a religion-focused class for students studying counseling and in their final year of practice. It was almost a full hour of just open-ended questions from the students about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and boy was it a little nerve-racking haha!! But Scott is super awesome and I felt so privileged to be able to represent the church in a different way and answer a lot of misconceptions/questions about the church, church doctrine, church history, and church practices. Sister Weston said it went well and I believe her. ;) I felt very honored to be there. It was awesome!!

Seriously I'm so grateful to be a part of this church and know what I know. I'm so grateful to be here on a mission and see the change Christ can create in people's lives. If you have any questions, PLEASE ask!! Give the Book of Mormon a read and pray about your questions - they MATTER. They really do. :) Love you all lots!! Have a great week!

Elder Goss---W:58 Zone Conference Bamboozlement (Oct 13, 2020)

Hm. What happened this past week? Hmmm... Exchanges? Yeah. I got to spend the day with Elder Diether! You guys remember him? It was pretty fun. We served this one family by helping them clean up their boxing gymnasium, and although it was a bit slow, it was great work.

Oh, yeah, Zone Conference last Saturday. Ha ha. That was pretty... well... I'll let you decide.

A week beforehand, we were told that all the information was going to be on a document. I read over it, and was all "okay, yeah." Meet at the Valley building. Typically, that means the stake center "El Centro Building." But when we show up, nobody is there. What?? Then we look a little deeper. Mission Valley Building. Contrary to what you might think, it isn't in The Valley. That's over in the middle of San Diego! (... what?) So we call the other Elders, and they tell us to come, even though we're going to be 1 1/2 hours late (yuck). So we drive all the way out of The Valley to go to the Mission Valley Building, and all the way back. That was our day. Zone Conference was great, though.

Alright, I gotta go. I'll catch you up later!

Sister Goss---W60: Church inside, bone outside (Oct 12)

Heyo everybody!!

We drove back to Corona this week to give a training! Hip hip hooray!! It was so great to go back and say hi again. I absolutely love visiting zones I've served in the mission, if you can't tell. ;) We also had interviews with our mission president and those went well! President Watson is the BEST and I love visiting with him and his family. They are so cool. :))

Guess who I met this week?? This new YSA ward move-in named Joshua Goss! :O Woah!! As soon as I saw his records we called and planned a time to visit haha! I've met some Gosses here and there, but they're pretty rare. I was the first Goss he's ever met outside of his family. It was way cool! ;) We're not immediately related as far as we can tell, but we'll have to check FamilySearch.org to be sure.

We served at the bishop's storehouse again this week, attended institute in-person, filmed our quality post, had our social media meeting with Salt Lake City HQ, trained for our zone training meeting in Temecula, and ran our Murrieta stake youth social media devotional! It's been a great week! The stake devotional was really fun to be a part of because it was the first time I was there for the entire process: from the idea, creating the agenda, assigning speakers, creating the training slideshow, coordinating with the stake MCM, etc. It was a successful meeting and lots of youth participated, even though it was over Zoom! Woohoo!

AND WE HAD IN-PERSON CHURCH INSIDE THE CHURCH this week!!! Y'all - the last time I went to a ward sacrament meeting inside a church building was March 8th. March 8th to October 11th. That is absolutely insane. But it was SO GOOD! Sister Weston gave one of the talks and I said the closing prayer. We had to keep our masks on and we couldn't sing, so we just listened to music for the hymns. Despite the few differences, the Spirit was so strong! What a blessing!!!

Last story: we played this game called dynamite this morning as a zone which involved diving on the floor and throwing a kickball to get people out! We played it a couple pdays ago and it was super fun. :) When we finished the game today and got back in the car, I noticed my elbow was strangely bent and swollen. I asked my companion if she noticed anything different, and she said no. The other sisters that lived with us asked to see so I lifted it up at a different angle and they gasped; "oh my gosh your bone!!" I showed everyone and they all said "oh yeah that does not look good. I think it's dislocated." My elbow didn't hurt, with the exception of a major bruise, but I got pretty worried. My bone was not where it should've been and that's not usually a good thing. ;) So we spent the next two hours waiting at an urgent care after texting the zone chat, calling the nurse, calling my mom, and having the mission president's wife call us. After waiting in the waiting room for forever, they finally took me back and I was ready for the doctor to twist it painfully back in place. He looked at it, moved it around, and said, "are you in the mood to exercise? Can you do a pushup for me?" I said, "sure!" After actually successfully doing a pushup, the doctor said "your elbow is totally fine. It's just swollen. If it were dislocated, you wouldn't be able to do anything we just did. But thanks for getting it checked!" *smacks face in embarrassment 5 billion times* Oh my gosh. You're kidding. So now I have to go tell everyone that we just don't know what a dislocated elbow looks like and it was totally fine after all. Hahaha... Oh SO awkward.

Well there you have it! Another typical, wonderful week with an awkward story included. You're welcome. ;) Love you all lots! Have a great week!!

Love, Sister Goss

1) Institute!! Check out our new institue FB video we'll post on Tuesday on the FB page called Disciples of Jesus Christ in Murrieta

2) Pday on the way to dynamite

3) An *apparently* very normal picture of my very normal elbow. I now have many pictures of an elbow with no problems on my phone. 🤦🏼‍♀ #elbowpicsforthewin #ifeelsoeducated #soproud

Elder Goss---W:57 General Conference Week (Oct 6, 2020)

Once again, we did a lot of service this week. We moved boxes and blankets covered in urine. It was gross. But it was helpful, and so it was worth it.

Half of our Investigators and friends just got back from vacations, so hopefully we can actually talk with them this week.

Also, Bum bum bum bum! General Conference. That was some good stuff. The last session was amazing to me. I plan to go back and review what was said, and I hope a lot of you do too!

This was a short email, but just remember, we only have 1 life! Let's be sure we do it right the first time. You will never live this current hour again. And if we've already botched it up, then let's finish strong. Let's not forget that life is about becoming something. If we are not constantly seeking to improve our character, we will never experience what life is really about. There is joy in progression. Joy doesn't come from working hard, but from becoming a hard worker. Fulfillment does not come from feeling happy, but being happy. This is what life is about. It is about becoming the best you. Confidence, optimism, charisma, love, patience, laughter, peace, forgiveness, discipline, respect, and truth should be our objective.  Let's not be complacent with how far we've gotten. And while the final joy of achievement may not be found until the afterlife, we can enjoy our current progress we've achieved so far. This is "joy of the journey."

I love you all! take care!

Sister Goss---W59: Greatest meetings EVER!! (Oct 5, 2020)

WOW what a wonderful week!!! :D I'm seriously so blessed to be here. This is the best!! :)) <3

GUESS WHAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK? We had our Mission Leadership Council meeting IN-PERSON!! Yaaay!!! <3 Y'all, this is a huge deal because the last time we had in-person MLC was March 4th! That was way back before COVID and right after I left my first area in Riverside. I missed MLC in-person so much. :) I'm the only sister still here that was there the last time we met and it was so good to be back!! Oh my goodness it was seriously the best. :) We got to drive back up to Riverside (my home away from home), see my friends I haven't seen in months, etc. It was a huge miracle for me!! <3

And how did you like General Conference this weekend? Wasn't it the best?? I felt so uplifted and so excited about the gathering of Israel! #letGodprevail :) This conference was unique to me because my questions were answered almost word-for-word verbatim! They are always answered, but never so clearly as this past weekend. :) I'm so grateful for President Nelson and all the other apostles; they are just absolutely AMAZING! They make my heart so happy. ;) If you haven't had the chance to watch Conference, go to ChurchofJesusChrist.org and watch a talk or two! I promise they say what you need to hear! That's what prophets do. ;)

We also had two exchanges this week which was awesome. On exchanges with Sister Horton in Temecula, we went to a service activity with another 6 missionaries or so and out of the blue one of the elders said "woah that's crazy; Sister Goss and I are the only ones originally assigned to this mission here!" As I looked around, it was true! It's crazy how many missions are represented here now and how much of a melting pot our mission has become. I love it!! I've gotten to meet the coolest people because of it. :)

I'm SO EXCITED for this upcoming month of October!! I know it will be both stretching and miracle-filled. Buckle your seatbelts and eat your vitamins. :) I know, like the prophet and apostles said yesterday, that we only have exciting things to look forward to! Speaking of which, take this upcoming week and make it great! Love you all lots!! :)

Love, Sister Goss

1) Sister Weston and I at MLC!
2) Happy birthday Sister Huffaker
3) Sister party time
4) FB works y'all! Look at this General Conference event I created! :O

Elder Goss--W:56 Good Studies (Sep 29, 2020)

Happy week everyone! What is up? Sorry, it is going to be short. I'm already out of time.

This week, there hasn't been much that has happened externally. We DID have an excellent, nearly picture-perfect lesson with Perla, and that was fantastic. We have high expectations for her and her family.

Mostly this week, our success has come from some excellent studies Elder Lopez and I have had. We've gone all over from religion, to logic, to philosophy, and it has been great. We've learned a lot together.

Do you guys have any questions for me? I'd love to answer any inquiries about the mission.

Thanks so much!

Sister Goss--58: STL dinner (Sep 28, 2020)

Gooood afternoon e'rybody! :)) How's it going??

What a busy, full week!! I gave 5 missionary trainings within 3 days, we had church as a YSA ward, had dinner with the Mission President and all the STLs, and more. I'd say that's a pretty fantastic week. ;)

Our trainings were for the new missionary meeting, STL/ZL training, and specific zone trainings. :) So it was for a lot of different purposes and they all went smoothly! Thank goodness! ;) We had our ward meet in person this week, so that was super great. It was fun to meet the members in person for the first time (instead of just over Zoom) and our friend Adrian was able to come too! Woohoo! President invited all of the STLs to have empanadas with his family on Friday and that was definitely my favorite part of the week. :)) AH it was the best!! I was able to see Sister Gugelman, Sister Clyde, and Sister Copling along with all the other friends I've made. I love and miss them; it was so awesome! <3 :)

This week was a little slow in teaching; our friends had to cancel most of their meetings with us. But that has created a good buildup for this week so I'm really looking forward to it! :) The weather is definitely cooling down too. It's feeling more and more like my training which blows my mind haha! WOW! We had a hike this morning and that was great. Spending time with the zone is the best. :)

Love you all! Have a great week and keep on keepin' on!

Love, Sister Goss

Elder Goss---W:55 Lots of Service (Sep 22, 2020)

Soooooo... hi everybody. It's me, Elder Goss, enjoying 105° weather. Yup.

This week, we have had a lot of service projects, I mean a lot. We had respados again (snowcones), we went and cleaned an outdoor pavillion, helped unpack a trailer full of boxes, collected a bunch of trash, mattresses, and other garbage from people and took it to the dump. We also helped people unload their trash from their trucks at the dump.

Additionally, I have taken to writting down a bunch of thoughts and compiling them together about things I have learned. I enjoy doing it. I have no idea what I am going to do with it after I finish it, but that's that.

Well, that about sums up our week. I don't think we had a single lesson. Any lesson we set up was canceled. Unfortunate.

For a little thought, I'll share something I learned in personal study. We all have people in our lives, many of whom are friends and family. And everyone has problems. It's true. Everyone has weaknesses. Now, because we love our friends and family, there are times when we want to help them get through a hard time, or overcome a weakness.

If you want to help your friend (or family, or whatever), there are some things we have to keep in mind:

RELATIONSHIP IS EVERYTHING
They won't receive your help if they don't like you. They won't listen to you if you are their bad-guy. So, if you want to help somebody, you need to become their friend. You have to take time doing things they enjoy. You have to apologize frequently, even if you are in the right. You have to give them the benefit of the doubt when they misbehave.

UNDERSTAND THEIR DILEMMA
Don't assume motivations. First, try to observe and deduce things from an outside perspective. Don't take things personally. Treat their problem as a weakness, not a threat. For instance: if my sister (hypothetically) is being really selfish, I would be immature to frame her as a prideful, snoty person. The better way, is for me to just imagine her as a fun sister, who (just like me) has natural struggles, and that happens to be selfishness.

There's more to come. Hold onto your britches! I love you all.

Sister Goss---W57: In-person church!! (Sep 21, 2020)

I found out a cool fact today! Every English-speaking sister's 13 month mark falls on a transfer pday. As mine does today! :O Woowoo!

It's been a great last week of the transfer! I'm staying here in Murrieta with Sister Weston, which is awesome! Besides our zone leaders doubling out, only 5 other missionaries are leaving in our zone. Our zone isn't changing too much and I'm very happy about it; Murrieta is great! <3 :)

This week was very typical (which means it was incredible)! We served at the bishop's storehouse, Western Eagle, taught several lessons, had many home visits, attended meetings, etc. A highlight of my week was yesterday because for the first time since March, I got to meet with many members of the church and have sacrament as a ward outside!! The sisters we live with invited us to their ward's sacrament meeting because our ward doesn't start for another week. It was SO AWESOME to be there with the saints. Even though we all wore masks, sat in lawn chairs, were six feet apart, and didn't know anyone, the Spirit was there. I felt so much peace. :)

Facebook work is booming! If you haven't liked the missionary Facebook page in your area, please do! Salt Lake City is consistently checking in with us to see how it's going and what we can do better. I am SO PROUD of the Facebook pages here in our mission. Most missions don't have 18 Facebook pages, and most of their pages don't have thousands of followers. But the California Riverside Mission is doing awesome!! So far, we've had 2.2 million views, 20k followers, adn 234k engagements on our posts. WOOHOO!! Facebook missionary work is real and effective! :))

That'll be it for today! I'm STOKED for this next transfer; it's going to be so so so fun!! Love you all lots and I hope you have a wonderful week! :))

Love, Sister Goss

Scripture I loved this week: "And the Lord God hath sent his holy prophets among all the children of men, to declare these things to every kindred, nation, and tongue, that thereby whosoever should believe that Christ should come, the same might receive remission of their sins, and rejoice with exceedingly great joy, even as though he had already come among them. And many signs, and wonders, and types, and shadows showed he unto them, concerning his coming; and also holy prophets spake unto them concerning his coming" (Mosiah 3:13, 15).

2) All the sisters learning what transfers would bring
3) My face when I found out nothing was changing for me (silently shocked and relieved hahaha!!) 😂
