(Writing the date is always tricky
because on all the Mexican devices it switches the day and the month)
Hey everyone! This is my fourth
week! And it's been awesome.
There haven't been a whole lot of
new events that happened this past week that I can recall. Today, Elder Berry
and I found someone's key card to their room lying on the ground, so we took
that in. I gave some chocolates to my teacher without her catching me, so that
was fun to plan.
This email's spiritual thought is
about Charity, or the pure love of Christ. I was searching in the topical
guide, and I came across this one verse: 1 Pedro (Peter) 4:6. In the verse, it
says "charity shall cover the multitude of sins." You can interpret
this message, meaning Christ will always love you despite your sins, but I
thought of it another way. If we have charity, real charity, we see
past others' sins. We start to see their sins more as weaknesses. It is easier
to love someone who we see as weak than sinful. So if you read this, try
thinking of a person who you perhaps have labeled as a sinner. And then try
seeing their flaws not as sins but as weaknesses. Not only will you grow
compassion for them, but you will also find that there is another person who
has weaknesses: you. Do you want people to label you as a sinful, or immature,
or judgmental, or prideful person because you have a weakness? Is that fair?
No. Or, do you hope that your family, or friends, or missionary companion has
enough charity to recognize that there is a heart behind that
weakness?
I hope that whoever reads this
message decides to change. That we will stop condemning people because they are
struggling. Not excusing or ignoring their sins; that is never acceptable. I do
not, nor will I ever, view sin as harmless or fine. But I will see a person who
is not perfect at life, and who has weaknesses. And I want them to overcome
that weakness. I want to see that person become strong. Can't we all do the same?
Can't we cheer for the sinner who makes a right decision, rather than shun them
for the wrong ones? Some sins are serious, and have severe consequences. But
that does not mean we ever stop loving them.
I hope you like it. Thanks so much!
