Hello from
Riverside!!
I'm finally here in
the mission field! WOO-HOOO! It was crazy getting here; dragging your luggage
on buses, trains, and airports is tricky! Haha! But I made it all in one piece.
:) It's hard to believe I'm actually here- doing the work I've prepared for for
years! I'm actually here!! CRAZY!!
President and Sister
Hammon are super sweet and I had delicious tacos and horchata (rice milk) with
them my first night here. The next day, Wednesday, all of us new trainees had
orientation that was super overwhelming and long! But it was necessary, and I
know that I'll get the hang of it soon. Then I met my trainer! Her name is
Sister Miles and she is super awesome. This is actually her last transfer
before she goes home, which is crazy. She is from CO, and is really considerate
and kind; I got lucky. :) We're in a car (thank goodness!!!) in the Canyon Crest
Ward, Riverside Stake.
I've been surprised
how much Riverside reminds me of Mesa, AZ where I grew up! It's so funny when I
think I recognize a certain area but realize there's no way I could. Haha! This
week has been full of Seeking with Faith (walking around neighborhoods and
talking with people who are out and about), trying to contact people who said
they were interested, and service! We're teaching a few people, and there are
some already on date to be baptized! Harminder is a man from India and we
taught him yesterday. He knows he can find peace in Christ by following Him; he
wants to be baptized October 19! We're also teaching Cole, a teenager who
referred himself: Lynn, a single mom with two boys; and a few others. Yesterday
as we were Seeking with Faith I felt impressed to knock on a specific door and
a college student answered. He was interested and so we'll try to meet with him
soon! We also said hi to a woman feeding her cat and volunteered to help her
clean her yard. She accepted and wants to feed us this week. So we are planting
lots of seeds of faith and are hoping for miracles soon!
Not going to lie,
leaving the MTC was really hard. I miss my district and friends so very much
and adjusting has been more difficult than I thought! I miss home in VA too.
But I know that as I put the work and effort in, it will get better. :) I'll
become more familiar with the area and learn to love the people here!! Miss you
all and special shout out to District 29-B from the MTC; y'all are the best and
good luck wherever you are!!

That's awesome about your seeds of faith. I have a neighbor who was taught by the missionaries years ago, but then lost contact. We've started talking about the church again and she was so close to coming over for dinner with the missionaries the other night, but something last minute came up. She felt so bad and wants to try again. Those missionaries that contacted her years ago will probably never know what is happening, but what matters is is that she's at least somewhat interested again! Keep up the great work!
