Sister Goss---W6: Burnt cookies and burning testimony

Hi dear family and friends!!

This week was fantastic!! We saw so many little miracles! 😊 I'll start with the more "secular" things and then get in to the really neat stuff.

I have been asked so many times this week: "hey can you be tall for a second?" And I don't know how to feel about it haha!! I'm only 5'6", but my roommates are all 5'3" or shorter and being the tallest is SO weird.. especially those of you who've known me since I was little. I've always been the shortie. So... 🤷‍♀️ Haha! Also guess what?? Sister Miles and I got a new car this week!! 😁 YAY!! We traded in our Toyota Corolla 2014 for a 2017. Can I just say: it is NIIIICE! It might be a little while until I'll be able to have a new car as my own again, so I'm going to enjoy it as much as possible while it lasts. 👍 Woohoo! Also we tried to make cookies the other day and they burnt badly on the bottom. The tops were fine though so we ate the top half of them and it was the funniest way I've ever eaten cookies. It was a good time. 🍪

So here are some awesome miracle stories! 1) First off, our mission was able to meet -no, surpass- its baptismal goal for the first time in months! This is a really big deal and we've been waiting for a long time for this. Everyone is really excited and we are determined to make October even better!! 2) We got an amazing referral yesterday by Joshua who referred himself! He asked for a copy of the Book of Mormon and said he wants to grow closer to God, improve his life, and learn more. We are so excited to start teaching him and share with him God's good news!! 3) While I was on exchanges (for the first time) Saturday, we decided to stop by Nilda, a person we met while street contacting two weeks ago. She just happened to be outside waiting for a friend so we talked about the Sabbath Day, baptism, and the priesthood. She finally made the connection that we're "Utah Mormons" and said "I love your religion! I had amazing Mormon friends!" She was super receptive and sweet, and we can see that God is preparing her heart. We invited her to church and she said she'd ask her daughter so we've been praying for both of them. 4) On Friday I felt impressed to have a car fast so we did. We happened to walk by this young adult in a wheelchair and said hi. Fast forward to last night: we were driving home and saw her waiting on the side of the road. Sis Miles started to pull over and I said "let's just park in our complex and walk over!" So we did, but when we got back she was gone. We saw her go into McDonalds and started walking back. As we walked, we found a wallet on the ground and we were pretty sure it was her wallet! (Coincidence? I don't think so...) So we went to McDonalds and saw her looking through her stuff. We ended up having an uplifting conversation with her and giving her a Book of Mormon! She's homeless and was recently in a car accident so her neck was broken. I hope she's able to read a little and find that peace that Christ offers!

I have been so surprised and shocked by the faith of those we're teaching. Harminder, another investigator, finally came to church and read the whole book of 1 Nephi when all we asked was to read chapter 1! Lynn, a mother of 4 who is struggling keeping her head above water, is so faithful in wanting to learn more. She reads chapters everyday and soaks in all the information we share. When she bears testimony I am so inspired by her diligence and willingness to follow Christ! She is making that conscious choice and it blows me away. Her 10 year old son, Julian, is doing the same and he was the one that brought her to church; he was baptized recently. We taught Cole, a teenager, the Plan of Salvation and he had so many good questions. Our ward is so missionary-minded and amazing with their ssupport! The people here are incredible and my faith has strengthened as I've seen their simple but sincere faith. It blows me away!!

This was an awesome week. 😊 I am so honored to be serving a mission and this is just a small thing I can do for my Savior. This is His church and He loves us so so much!! He loves YOU!! I love you all and keep on keepin' on!!

Lots of love,
Sister Mary Goss
