Elder Goss---#3 Elder Goss's Email

This is the beginning of my third week here. Its been a pretty good week. We're finally getting into the groove of things, and it has been rather enjoyable, actually. There are times when a wave of stress washes over me when they introduce a new book and say "memorize this in two weeks!" But aside from that, I've been working really hard, and am beginning to enjoy learning Spanish. My companion has been very helpful and has taught me a lot of Spanish. He really likes talking in Spanish to our "investigators," so sometimes I don't get much in, but its good practice for him too.

On Sunday, we had a real fun day! During our study time, the district was in the classroom, studying. Our teacher told us that we could watch any church video we wanted, then walked out. Elder Barlow says, as a joke, "do you guys want to watch the saddest video in your lives?" The whole district, aside from Elder Lythgoe and me, says yes. But then complains when Elder Barlow is all "no. You guys don't want to watch this video." but they don't care, and so we watch the video. Now, if any one of you want to watch this video, it can be found on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint's website, under videos. It is labeled "Hidden Miracles: Life after the Sandy Hook Tragedy." It's about a family whose daughter was killed in the Sandy Hook shooting. I was sitting in the front, so I couldn't see the other's faces as we watched. However, throughout the duration of the video, I could hear an increasing volume and number of sniffles. After the video, I turn around, and everyone was crying. Poor Elder Lythgoe looked like a freakin' waterfall. We then all shared our thoughts and it was all very spiritual. But if you ever want to have a good cry, well have I got a video for you!

Anyhow, we had a few really neat devotionals. There was a face-to-face with Elder Soares and a member of the Seventy, and that was pretty cool. President Nelson, in a world-wide address, had a wonderful talk about Truth and law. I don't think I ever had the doctrine explained so simply and powerfully. Truth is truth. Man cannot change the laws of the universe. The laws of the universe are the laws of God, and cannot be changed. Everyone should watch it.

This past weekend was Mexico's Independence day! There were a lot of fire-works, but none that we could see. Just a whole lot of 'ka-boom's and 'ka-blooies.' However, do to the fact that some of these patriotic (crazy) Mexicans would fire live ammo into the air, we had to be in our homes before 9 to avoid falling bullets. That was fun.

Anyhow, I miss all of you! I hope you are all doing well, and I pray that you all will be safe. You are fantastic and I can't wait to write again!
